Bringing together representatives from Member States, civil society, private sector, academia, local and regional authorities, youth, and many more, the Action Days will provide an opportunity for broad engagement and inclusion. These stakeholders have all played a key role in shaping the Pact for the Future and will be critical to its implementation.
The Action Days will kick off with a dedicated, youth-led afternoon followed by a Saturday programme which will focus on three priority themes – digital and technology, peace and security, and sustainable development and financing. In addition to the three themes, there will also be a dedicated focus throughout the day on future generations. Confirmed participants include Heads of State and Government, Ministers, senior UN officials including the Secretary General, Nobel Laureates and representatives from the private sector, civil society and other actors.
The focal points for each thematic session are listed below. For all questions related to logistics or participation, please contact sotfactiondays@un.org.
Action Day 1 – Friday, 20 September 2024 – 1-6 PM (precise times TBC)
The Action Days are an opportunity to elevate the voice of youth in the multilateral system. Youth are key participants in efforts to secure breakthroughs in global cooperation. Youth challenge conventional thinking, hold leaders to account and are focused on generations that come after us. Youth stand to lose the most if global leaders fail to fulfil their promises. The Action Days will kick off with a dedicated, youth-led afternoon facilitated by the United Nations Youth Office in close collaboration with relevant networks/stakeholder groups to generate momentum ahead of the mandated Summit. The day will be convened under the theme of “#YouthLead for the Future: We believe in the promise of a better world for all”.
Action Day 2, which coincides with International Day of Peace, will focus on multistakeholder partnership and action – paving a way towards a next chapter of multilateralism that is more inclusive and networked. To achieve this, the Action Day 2 will address three priority themes (session names are working titles and subject to change).
