8 years after the collapse of the Fundão dam operated by Samarco (Vale and BHP), which killed 20 and affected thousands, victims continue to suffer ongoing health and economic impacts. For the first time this week BHP, the world’s largest mining group, has said publicly it wants to reach a final settlement over the disaster, worth potentially tens of billions of dollars of liabilities.
