During 2024 inequality continued to grow, the world experienced its hottest year ever, the war on Gaza continued unabated and President Trump won the US elections on the back of a slew of hard-right policies. But at the same time, deforestation was dramatically slowed in the Amazon, young people rose up in Bangladesh to topple an unpopular leader, Bashar al-Assad was ousted in Syria, and in other countries such as India and South Korea attempts by leaders to consolidate power were resisted.
In Recasting Development, we will explore shifting dynamics around social and environmental justice with perspectives from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia and South Africa. Speakers will highlight key trends to look out for in 2025 and offer insights around how we can move towards a better future.
