Vision
Our vision is to stimulate and support action for SDGs-based food systems transformations towards the acceleration of the 2030 Agenda.
Mission
Our mission is to serve countries through systemic, country-driven, customized support in translating their commitments into effective actions to reach sustainable food systems by 2030, leveraging the wider UN system’s capacities.
To achieve this, the Hub acts as a catalyst and connector inside the UN system in relation to food systems transformations’ contribution to the 2030 Agenda. To accelerate food systems transformations, the Hub takes on an essential coordination role to bring together relevant UN agencies, coalitions, international financial institutions, the private sector and other actors of support to galvanize food systems knowledge and expertise in support of countries’ action.
The UN Food Systems Coordination Hub (“the Hub”) will acts as the catalyst inside the UN system in relation to food systems and the 2030 Agenda. Following the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit (FSS), the Hub is taking on essential coordination functions to bring together food systems knowledge and expertise from diverse constituencies to support national progress on the SDGs in response to country priorities.
The Hub’s role is to support countries to further develop and/or implement their national food systems transformation pathways, relevant dialogues and other processes, through the coordination of technical and policy support as requested by countries. The Hub will:
- Ensure to connect the broader ecosystem of actors, including coalitions and other initiatives, as well as the science ecosystem.
- Promote alignment and integration of actors’ efforts with country demand.
- Elevate priority topics in the food systems transformation agenda for strategic thought leadership of UN Agencies, leading actors, and other supporting parties.
The Hub will focus on leveraging the broad range of assets of the UN system – particularly within the context of the repositioning of the UN development system – and existing SDG reporting structures to demonstrate progress. The Hub will act as a coordinator and connector among diverse constituencies to support national progress on the SDGs and will be responsive to country priorities.
While the Hub will facilitate the identification of support services and set up a system to coordinate support to countries, the actual implementation of these services will be done by the UN Agencies supporting the Hub and other actors. To this end, the Hub will prioritize six key functions:
- Facilitate implementation of National Pathways.
- Strengthen strategic thought leadership, in support of countries.
- Engage the ecosystem of support across the UN system and more widely.
- Leverage means of implementation.
- Communicate and advocate for a Food Systems Approach.
- Prepare for the 2023 Stocktaking Moment.

Progress on food systems transformation since the UN Food Systems Summit 2021
Report of the Secretary-General Executive Summary
The advanced, unedited, draft version of the Report of the UN Secretary-General: "Progress on food systems transformation since the UN Food Systems Summit 2021" is now available. This report presents a valuable resource for understanding the ongoing efforts and opportunities for further improvement in achieving sustainable, equitable and resilient food systems worldwide. The finalized official report will be launched at the UN Food Systems Summit +2 (UNFSS+2) Stocktaking Moment.
The UN Food Systems Summit of 2021 (UNFSS) projected a vision in which the transformation of food systems through profound shifts across production, storage, consumption, and disposal of food has the potential to generate multiplier effects, acting as catalysts for broader transformation across multiple systems and SDGs. By reimagining and redesigning our food systems, we can address pressing challenges and unlock opportunities for progress in other areas. Since 2021, 122 countries adopted national pathways and 155 appointed food systems national convenors, demonstrating their sustained interest and commitment to transforming food systems.
The preparations towards UNFSS+2 witnessed significant global participation and engagement, with 101 countries submitting voluntary country progress reports. These reports provided insights into the progress and efforts being made to transform food systems worldwide. In addition inputs from the UN System and the Food Systems Ecosystem of Support and the stakeholders have been sought out.
The analysis of these inputs provides the following findings. Governments are speeding up action for food systems transformation. Indicators of this action include the following:
Over 70% have integrated the FST vision of their national pathway into national strategies and/or sectoral plans.
One quarter report that food systemsissues are now being reflected in national laws and regulations with increased importance being given to the right to food, food loss and waste, school meals, food fortification, and the application of labour codes for food systems worker.
Over 60% have started to develop implementation plans for their national pathways.
Around two-thirds report the setup, or strengthening, of platforms for governing national food systems. 60% have adapted governance processes to take account of the food systems approach.
Nearly 50% are continuing food systems dialogues linked to implementation at national and subnational levels to refine their pathways
In 41% of countries efforts are underway to assess financing gaps and 38% have established investment strategies to mobilize public and/or private financial resources
